The Range
Not far from the mountains, where the Murray still runs deep and clear, is a great curve in the river. Planted here is our vineyard where gnarled old vines send their roots deep into the rose-coloured sandy soils. Premium wines have been made and enjoyed here at St Leonards since 1860.
The Wine
Lumière means “light” and this wine was created fresh, light and lively in an off-dry style that combines fragrant aromatics with fresh, crisp fruit and a hint of sweetness. Clean and refreshing with lovely citrusy fruit with the touch of sweetness balancing out the finish.
Variety
Semillon originates from the Bordeaux region of France where it is used in dry and dessert wine styles. It is a versatile white variety that Australia has made its own and here too it is made in varying styles from the light, lean and crisp Hunter style right through to dessert wines.
Winemaking
Grapes for this wine come from the St Leonards vineyard (100%) where the fruit was machine harvested and taken straight to the winery. After gentle pressing and a cold fermentation to keep the delicate aromatics of the variety, the wine remained in stainless steel tanks until sterile filtration and bottling.
Food Matching
With its softness of palate and hint of sweetness this wine will match well with a large range of light salads or lightly spicy Asian influenced dishes. It will also make an excellent aperitif, perhaps with a tasty antipasto or fruit and cheese platter.
Cellaring Potential
This wine will not benefit from extended cellaring and will be best enjoyed within a year or two of vintage for its fresh, youthful flavours.
