Marsanne

antipasto, fish, poultry
A crisp, refreshing wine packed with distinctive Marsanne fruit flavours of lemon, peach and honey. Light to medium bodied with a minerally character and good acid on the finish which provides great structure and ensures it is very food-friendly.
Marsanne is a native of the northern Rhône Valley in southern France where it achieves its ultimate expression as a single varietal in wines such as Chapoutier’s Chante-Alouette, a single vineyard on the Hermitage hill. Interestingly, the world’s oldest Marsanne vines are here in Australia at Tahbilk, which was the original source of All Saints vines.
Being food-friendly and extremely versatile this wine is a great match for lighter white meats such as turkey or veal. Its fuller palate texture also lends itself to seafood dishes with creamier sauces.
"Hand-picked, destemmed and crushed, cold settled for 24 hours, fermented with cultured yeast in tank, 3 months on lees in French oak (which has contained the previous vintage of the Family Cellar Marsanne). Surprising colour pickup; I don't think the process of tank fermentation and used oak maturation has worked well, more has been lost on the swings than gained on the roundabout." James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion, August 2017
"A vibrant, juicy and delicious wine with lemon curd flavours plus a little attractive beeswax. The wine has excellent flavour intensity, energy, liveliness and length. An easy wine to love and enjoy." Toni Patterson MW, The Real Review, February 2018
