The Range

Not far from the mountains, where the Murray still runs deep and clear, is a great curve in the river. Planted here is our vineyard where gnarled old vines send their roots deep into the rosecoloured sandy soils. Premium wines have been made and enjoyed here at St Leonards since 1860.

The Wine

The wine has a bright pale yellow colour in the glass. It has aromas of ripe pear and citrus with a delicate floral note. These carry through on the palate, with a lovely savoury balance and textural note the finish is balanced with crisp acidity.


Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape variety, but the wines are different. Pinot Gris is cultivated in the Alsace region of France and Pinot Grigio originates from northern Italy.


Pinot Gris wines tend to be fuller-bodied, richer, spicier, and more viscous in texture. They also often have greater cellaring and ageing potential.. Many new world winemakers are also working with the variety and excellent examples can be found from the cooler regions of Australia, and from New Zealand, USA and others.


Grown in the cool climate of North East Victoria’s King Valley and then fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks. A small portion was then run off into old French barriques for 6 months with the balance staying in tank on light lees which where mixed in. The lees contact helps to create palate weight and the oak ageing enhances the savoury notes to balance the fruit and acid structure on the finish.

Food Matching

Pinot Gris, with its fuller bodied characters, will work well with lighter meat and chicken dishes, even those with a little spice. Try it with a succulent veal chop or even Chicken Tikka Masala.

Cellaring Potential

Generally speaking, the more a wine relies on fresh fruit and lively aromatics, the less likely it is to age gracefully. The vibrant youthful fruit characters that make the wine so appealing are best enjoyed with two years of vintage.
