St Leonards Vineyard

An old favourite, relaunched in late 1997 with a range of premium wines cleverly marketed through an attractive cellar door and bistro at the historic winery on the banks of the Murray. It is run by Eliza Brown (CEO), sister Angela (online communications manager) and brother Nick (vineyard and winery manager). They are perhaps better known as the trio who fulfil the same roles at All Saints Estate. Exports to the UK and the US.

5 Glasses – Black (Outstanding)

St Leonards Vineyard Wahgunyah Shiraz 2015 – 95 points

A very attractive medium-bodied shiraz that has greatly benefited from the use of French barriques. I tasted the wine (with the benefit of vinification details), but didn’t notice the price. It all hangs together, and shows exactly the quality that can be coaxed out of Rutherglen shiraz. Buy here

St Leonards Vineyard Shiraz 2015 – 94 points

Exceeds expectations, probably due to its flying start in picking before the alcohol started to fire up. It’s positively elegant, with a chess board of red and black fruits, then fine tannins to complete the flavour story, oak merely a means to an end. Buy here

4.5 Glasses (Highly Recommended)

St Leonards Vineyard Durif 2015 – 92 points

St Leonards Vineyard Classic Muscat – 90 points
